Developing REF impact case studies (arts & heritage impact)
StartMay 01
EndMay 01
This event is open to academic and research staff at Queen's University, Belfast only. Please use your Queen's email address to register.  This workshop is open to academic and research staff across the Faculty who are interested in developing the non-scholarly impact potential of their research. It's aimed, in particular, at those who believe their research might result in significant impact in the future, with possible potential for a REF 2028 impact case study, but is also open to those who are involved in currently developing a potential REF 2021 case study and those who believe their research could provide the basis for one.  The focus of this workshop will be on artsul, cultural and heritage impact, including impact on professional practice.  We'll be reviewing a small selection of relevant case studies submitted to REF 2014 to identify their strengths and weaknesses. You'll take part in a 'mock' REF assessment exercise where you'll get to try your hand at scoring case studies.  You'll also receive an overview of some of the most salient points from the recently published REF 2021 guidance on case studies, and from all the intelligence we've gleaned to date about what REF assessors are looking for in case studies.  Please note that, as long as it meets a quality minimum threshold of 2*, the research which underpins a case study doesn't have to be submitted as a REF output and can be produced by staff whose job doesn't have a research focus e.g. Lecturers (Education). So please do feel free to come along if you're interested in developing research impact, even if research doesn't form a core part of your employment contract.
