Professional Educator Ethics Workshop - Denver Metro
StartApr 22
EndApr 22
Please join us for a professional educator ethics workshop: A Focus on Ethics - Guiding Professional Decision-Making! Research indicates that educators make thousands of non-traditional decisions each day.  Educators are expected to address the academic, personal, and social needs of society’s most vulnerable population – our children. The National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC), in partnership with the National Council for the Advancement of Educator Ethics (NCAEE), the Colorado Department of Education, and Regis University, is offering a free professional learning workshop for educators in your region.  This workshop brings Educator Preparation Program (EPP) faculty and partner P-12 local school practitioners, principals and human resource members together to examine the vast complexities, competing tensions, and risks that are inherent within the teaching profession. Through the use of case studies and authentic scenarios, research, video clips, engaging models of understanding, and lively discussion, we will explore how to navigate the difficult landscape of everyday decision-making in the highly nuanced profession of education. This workshop will provide an opportunity for experienced educators to collaborate around the important questions of professional ethics. Examples of best practice currently in use throughout the country will be shared. We invite educator preparation program directors and faculty, district human resources and hiring managers, principals and mentor educators to come to the free professional development offering.  Certificates of completion (6 hours of professional development) will be issued upon completion. Space is limited!  Be sure to register early! Featured presenters: Phillip S. Rogers, Ed.D., Executive Director, Natonal Association of State Directors of Teacher Education Certification (NASDTEC), Troy Hutchings, Ed.D., Subject Matter Expert, National Council for the Advancement of Educator Ethics (NCAEE), and Anne Marie Fenton, Ed.S., NASDTEC Past-President and Co-Chair, National Council for the Advancement of Educator Ethics, Director of Rules Management and Educator Assessment, Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Women In Data Science | A Panel Discussion
StartApr 23
EndApr 23
Considering a career change into Data Science and want to better understand the road ahead of you? Come join us as we bring in a panel of Data Scientists and explore their backgrounds, trainings, their typical day, and problems they're solving. Making a career change to a field as new and evolving like Data Science comes with a significant amount of uncertainty, questions, and confusion. We’re bringing together an incredible panel of data scientists with diverse backgrounds to give you a better idea of what it takes to succeed in this demanding career field. Meet our Panelists:  Julia Maddalena -  Julia studied statistics at Cal Poly and continued on to master's program in statistics from UC Santa Barbara. Upon returning home to Colorado, she took a job as a statistician for a diagnostic laboratory working on clinical study research. Working in healthcare was satisfying but she realized that she wanted to build models to predict the future rather than report odds ratios and p-values. After studying some machine learning on her own, she was hired by a demand response company to aid their research on applying machine learning to thermostat telemetry data. In January, she moved on to work as a Data Scientist for Miner & Kasch. Karen Farbman -  Karen graduated from the University of Rochester with degrees in Physics and Music in 2014 and began her career as a Product Developer at a financial software company. After realizing that wasn't exactly what she wanted to do, she moved to Colorado and took some time off to teach skiing. She quickly realized that she missed working with data, taught herself some basic Python, and jumped into Galvanize's Data Science program. Shortly after the program ended, Karen joined Miner & Kasch as a Data Scientist in January of 2018. Jordan Hagan - Jordan started her career in data back in 2010 as a data analyst working with the government to help DOJ and OIG agents investigate Medicare Part D fraud. She then spent the next 6 years in various Data Analytics/DBA roles all with healthcare companies before switching to front end hospital electronic health record systems. She consulted on EHRs for a couple of years before realizing she really missed data and backend systems. Data Science seemed like the next logical step. After completing Galvanize’s Data Science program in 2017, she was able to jump right back into the workforce as a Data Scientist working with hospital data again. After becoming a little burnt out on healthcare and missing the world of consulting, she made the move to work as a Data Scientist for Miner and Kasch in March 2018. Miner & Kasch -  Miner & Kasch is an artificial intelligence and data science consulting firm that builds intelligent end-to-end, data-driven solutions. Our data scientists and platform architects deliver industry-leading machine learning and data analytics systems that are functional, high-performing, and scalable. Some of the topics we will cover include: *Day in the Life  * The importance of a support network * Best practices in learning the foundational skills to thrive as a Data Scientist * Industry trends *The future of Data Science * Mentorship Pre-requisites: *None Come with some questions ready for our panelists :) Schedule: 6:00pm - 6:30pm - Doors open & food/drinks 6:30pm - 8:00pm - Panel Discussion About our Sponsor Galvanize is the premiere dynamic learning community for technology.
